What Is VSED?
VSED stands for Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking. It is an end-of-life choice in which a decision-capable adult chooses to stop taking food and fluids in order to allow the natural dying process to unfold. This option is legal throughout all 50 U.S. states.
For many, VSED is seen as a return to the body’s inherent wisdom. Long before modern medical interventions existed, the human body naturally knew how to transition at the end of life. VSED honors that innate process and allows for a peaceful, self-directed approach to dying.
